Pen Park artist in residence, Tomiko Jones, is hosting two public programs (no fee) in Peninsula State Park during her residency. Here are the confirmed details:
Toro Nagashi (Glowing Lantern Festival)
Tuesday, August 6 from 7-10pm (sunset)
Peninsula State Park, Weborg Point Fishing Pier and the nearby shelter
This festival is a Japanese tradition for remembering and honoring those who have passed. The annual traditional date is August 6.
The event in Pen Park includes a projection on a scrim on the shore of one of Tomiko’s works + lanterns made by Tomiko with natural materials.
Anyone is welcome to add a lantern to the collection in remembrance of someone in their lives.
Drop-in Cyanotype Workshop (all ages)
Saturday, August 10 from 10am-1pm
Rain date: Saturday, August 17
Peninsula State Park, Nicolet Beach
Supplies are provided – Cyanotypes are a fun, no-mess, quick gratification process! An easy activity to drop in on.
Prints will be made with found natural objects – leaves, sticks, petals, etc – layered, arranged in patterns
Tomiko will have several sample pieces for viewing and inspiration.
