International Bat Week is coming up on the week of Oct. 24-31, 2025. Staff at Peninsula State Park recently assisted in a 2-month long acoustic monitoring study with DNR Conservation Biologists in the Bat Program. Five different species were detected near Eagle Tower between mid-July to mid-September. White-nose syndrome has drastically reduced bat populations in Wisconsin and while little brown bat counts have been increasing, other species like the northern long-eared bat haven’t seen that same trend in counts. The northern long eared bat has been identified in the park in past surveys but was unfortunately not identified in this survey. Visit the LINK to learn what you can do to help!
